Pinwheel Spinner Card for the Young at Heart

I just finished typing the last of the directions for the Young at Heart Stamp Camp.  I saved the spinner card for the end as I knew it might be challenging to explain the steps.  We are casing a card done by Dawn Olchefske.  Dawn prepared a video on making this card, and if you have time, you may want to spend 5 minutes viewing her video at http://dostamping.typepad.com/dostamping_with_dawn/2013/04/video-tutorial-stampinup-pinwheel-spinner-card.html

I chose a color scheme of Bermuda Bay and Strawberry Slush for this happy card.  The Word Window punch creates the center slot, and the retired Pinwheel Sizzlits die cuts the pinwheel with the help of the Big Shot.  As this is a retired die, feel free to bring some of your own DSP to cut extra pinwheels to take home.  I used the Cloudy Day embossing folder for the spinner layer to provide some texture.  Besides, clouds are perfect for the “Wishes Your Way” message stamp set.  The Stampin’ Piercing Mat is a great tool when making the pinwheel as you end up piercing the base 4 or 5 times.  As shown on her Video, Dawn uses the Piercing Tool to form the pinwheel, I find using a corsage pin is a bit easier – I will have both tools available for you to use.

Using 2 pennies – one on either side of the spinner layer – is the key to spinning.  My sweet hubby gave me pennies to use for the upcoming stamp camp.  Well, clever me – I wanted to make sure they were clean with no residue to keep the dimensionals from sticking.  So, I scrubbed the pennies, soaked them in bleach, soaked them in some other concoction and finally ran them through the dishwasher.  Of course they came out all corroded!!!  So sweet hubby said he will try to get a roll of NEW pennies for us to use!  I will have rhinestones, pearls, and the new Candy Dots out to use as embellishments for your cards.  The card above uses a rhinestone on either end of the front message.

I hope you can join me for the Young at Heart Stamp Camp.  The dates again are Thursday, August 1st from 3 – 9 PM and Saturday, August 3rd from 9 AM – 4 PM.  The cost for the 3 cards is $7.00.  As always, it helps if you let me know whether or not you will be attending – but that is not necessary.  I always have adequate paper cut.

The September Stamp Camp will be Thursday, Sept 5th from 3 – 9 PM; Friday, Sept 6th from 3 – 9 PM, and Saturday, Sept 7th from 9 AM – 4 PM.  We will fine tune days/times when I can better determine what works best for you.  The September theme will be Summer Flowers.  I am planning on Poppies, a beautiful Dahlia, a new Backyard Basics set, and a holiday card using designer paper and a new set from the holiday booklet.  Currently, I am planning on October Stamp Camp for Oct 3, 4, 5; November Stamp Camp for Nov 7, 8, 9 and December Stamp camp for Dec 5, 6, 7.  December may change as I know everyone is busy busy busy on that first Dec. Saturday.

Please give me a call or drop me an E-mail with any questions.  I’ve missed not seeing you in July!  Blessings, Rosemary – 630.759.3089 – paperrose01@aol.com

Oh Hoppy Day–For the Young at Heart

Oh Hoppy Day

Does the background on this card look a bit familiar?  The background is printed from My Digital System (MDS).  In August 2012, I printed the same grass background and added 2 small frogs to the vertical card we did.  This year, the card is horizontal with sunflowers and a distant sun added to the background.  Now that MDS has the ability to allow us to color in the image, there is much more versatility.  Don’t forget that I have the CDs available for the free 30-day MDS trial.  The Hoppy Frog is created totally from punches – the large and small ovals, 1 3/4” circle, Boho Blossoms, 1/2 “ circle and 1/4” circle.  All the punching has been completed so all you have to do is sponge the edges and form the frog with Glue Dots or Snail.  A simple 1/4” yellow bow adds a bit of extra color.  Hoppy is adhered to the pre-printed with Stampin’ Dimensionals so he “jumps” from the page.  The color scheme for this cute card is Crushed Curry, Brown Sugar, and Old Olive.  The card can be used for any occasion – birthday, get well, thinking of you, etc.

This is card #2 for the Young-At-Heart Stamp Camp to be held on Thursday, August 1st from 3 – 9 PM and Saturday, August 3rd from 9 AM to 4 PM.  As I mentioned previously, my 95-year old Mother has been visiting and we are taking her and Debbi to the airport on Friday, August 2nd so there will not be stamp camp on that day.  We will be completing 3 cards and the charge will be $7.00.  These cards are all relatively easy.  The pinwheel spinner card may be a slight challenge if you have never done a spinner card before.  However, the stamping is limited to the message, so the only task is creating the pinwheel and putting the card together to accommodate a spinner.  It will be fun!

I plan to post the spinner card on Tuesday, July 23rd.  I have grand-parenting duties tomorrow, Monday, July 22nd.  Hope to see you on August 1st or 3rd.  Let me know if you have any questions.

August Stamp Camp–Cards for The Young at Heart

Happy Summer Stampers!  I can’t believe how fast the year is flying!  I have discovered that being retired does NOT give you extra time.  Retirement gives you extra things to do that you didn’t have time to do when you were working!!!!  On a positive note, I haven’t fallen since February when several of you had the pleasure of seeing me fall straight back.

We are having August Stamp Camp – dedicated to the Young at Heart.  The dates are Thursday, August 1st from 3 to 9 PM and Saturday, August 3rd from 9 AM – 4 PM.  Please note that I will NOT be having Stamp Camp on Friday, August 2nd as I will be accompanying my husband as he takes my Mother and Debbi to the airport.  Mother will be returning home to San Jose, CA and Debbi is flying with her to make sure she gets home safe and sound.  Flying when you are 95 is far from easy!

We will be doing 3 Young at Heart cards – Henry Says, Oh Hoppy Day, and a Pinwheel Spinner card.  The cost will be $7.  September Stamp Camp will be held on September 5, 6, and 7.  The September theme will be Summer Flowers, plus a Christmas/Holiday card.

Today, I thought we would look at “Henry Says” – a card created by Debbi.  Incidentally, Debbi will not be at August Stamp Camp, so you will have to put up with me!  Please be kind!!!!!!

Elephant red best“Henry Says” is a set that features Henry the elephant, and several sayings.  Here, Henry is commenting that “You’re Unforgettable” and is sending a spray of hearts.  I love the little bowler on his head.  Henry has been stamped and cut out on Designer Series Paper (DSP).  However, because I am such a kind person (cough cough), I have stamped and cut out a number of red and blue elephants so all you have to do is sponge your sky and grass, and adhere Henry,  You can choose the message, hat, etc. yourself.

Elephant blueHere, se see Henry proclaiming a birthday message.  This card is perfect for a child, or for anyone who likes elephants and is “young-at-heart.”  Although you can’t see it, the sky area has been lightly sponged blue, and the grassy area has been lightly sponged green.  The red, blue, yellow, and green color scheme makes this a happy, cheerful and bright card!

Hopefully, you have received your Christmas mini-catalog by now.  If you have not, and would like one, please let me know.  Here is a picture of the catalog cover:

Hope to see you August 1st of 3rd.  I will be posting the other 2 cards within the next few days, so please check back.  Give me a call if you have any questions.  Blessings, Rosemary – 630.759.3089 – paperrose01@aol.com
