Trees

SAMSUNG CSC“Trees” is such a stunning card that I chose not to trim the Adventure Bound DSP resulting in a 5 X 7 finished card.  When was the last time we did a 5 X 7 card?  Mossy Meadow and a new SU color – Tip Top Taupe – were the perfect colors for this forest scene.  When you see the card in person, you will note the muted greens, browns, and grays.  The “happy” caption on the front panel was die cut from the “Hello You” thinlits.  The words “happy, you, hello” and “thanks” come with this set.  Die cutting these SU thinlits is an absolute breeze.  At one time, I always used waxed paper or another non-stick material when I die cut my words.  However, no longer.  I run them thru the Big Shot, gently bang the die against my desk and easily pull out the word if it doesn’t jump out at me.  I added the heat embossed “birthday” die cut with a banner shape.

SAMSUNG CSC“Lovely as a Tree” is the oldest SU stamp set that remains current.  I chose to stamp one tree from this set on the inside of my card and on my envelope.

The second sample of  “Trees” varies only in the caption on the front layer.  I chose to die cut both “love” and “you” for a more personal card.  The “love” framelit is not current but goes well with the current cursive “you.”  The inner message can relay any sentiment you choose.

It is hard to believe it is May 18th and I have all 4 projects posted for June Stamp Camp.  However, I wanted you to see how we have used several of the papers from the Adventure Bound DSP stack.  I know how busy everyone is but I felt this was a great chance for you to obtain a DSP stack that you will be able to use in the weeks ahead.

A couple reminders that I have copied from the previous blog:  I need to know by Wednesday May 20 if you will be attending June Stamp Camp (June 4, 5, 6)  or purchasing a kit so I can have your Adventure Bound DSP stack for you. This 48-page paper stack is included in your June Stamp Camp kit.  Also, I will have the stamps I am selling, out for your perusal on Wednesday May 20 from 4 – 7 PM. Remember that the last day to order from the current big SU Catalog and Occasions Catalog is June 2nd. You can pick up the 2015-2016 catalog if you stop by to look at the stamps for sale on the 20th. Many, but not all, items are being carried over and there are lots of new items to feast your eyes on. The retiring products are updated daily and can be reviewed at Retiring SU Products. When they are gone – they’re gone!

We will not be meeting in July and will start up again just in time for fall and the holidays on August 6, 7 and 8.  I will be sending reminders from time to time about specials.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions and/or concerns.  While I am in California (May 22 – 29) please contact me by phone or text on my mobile at 630/965-1965 or by E-mail.

Manly Plaid

SAM_1267“Manly Plaid” is a rather poor excuse for a card title, but the only other title I could think of was “Squares” and that seemed a bit off.  We haven’t used Cajun Craze for quite some time, but it is the perfect color to go with the plaid in the Adventure Bound DSP Stack.  The plaid blends extremely well with the cs when you see the card in person.  This is a very simple card  of 5 – 1 1/4” squares placed on a square of Whisper White DSP.  The message is heat embossed in Detail Black and framed top and bottom again in white.  I have been fooling around with the message dimensions and have actually cut 1/4” off to better accent the message images.  Any celebratory message can be used.  Note the raised 5th square and the use of 6 white Candy Dots.  Vanilla Candy Dots can also be used.

2015.05.18 Lined Envelope 1I thought this might be a nice card to go in a lined envelope as shown here.  The only challenge is that due to the size of the DSP – 6 1/2 X 4 1/2 – the entire envelope is not lined – it ends up about 3/4 lined.  I did mine anyway and it looks sharp.  I have included the Stampin’ Up envelopes with this card so you can line it if you choose.  If you choose to line your other envelopes, please let me know and I will give you a SU envelope.  I generally use a cheaper envelope that I buy in bulk.

A couple things to remember:  I need to know by Wednesday May 20 if you will be attending June Stamp Camp (June 4, 5, 6) so I can have your Adventure Bound DSP stack for you.  This 48-page paper stack is included in your June Stamp Camp kit.  Also, I will have the stamps I am selling, out for your perusal on Wednesday May 20 from 4 – 7 PM.  Finally, remember that the last day to order from the current big SU Catalog and Occasions Catalog is June 2nd.

Oh Happy Day! Let me know by May 20th if you are coming to June Stamp Camp

SAMSUNG CSCI love “Happy Day!”  This standard sized card features the wood & DSP stack.  Early Espresso is our card color and the DSP deep green and shades of gray, brown and white are perfect.  I die a circle in my “wood” with the Circles Collection Framelits and used the Owl Builder punch with another DSP pattern to give me Mr. Owl.   The vest can be punched from any DSP and I have a small container of owl vests pre-punched for you.  The Owl Builder punch provides your eyes and I punched a black, gray, and white eyeball assortment.  I used the Word Bubbles Framelits Dies to punch out my “Happy Day.”  I’m sad to report that these dies are retiring along with the “Just Sayin’” stamp set.  I love using the Word Bubbles with an animal image that appears to be “speaking” the message!

SAMSUNG CSCMr. Owl is wearing a plaid vest on this “Happy Day” card.  I used google eyeballs which are cute on the gray and black eyes. The owl sticks out of the tree hold and uses Stampin’ Dimensionals to give him some dimension.  In case you are wondering what type of card might feature an owl saying “Happy Days,” how about a birthday, father’s day, retirement, or promotion?  This card can be used for any male celebratory occasion.

The DSP used on the “Happy Day!” card is part of the Adventure Bound DSP stack that is included in the June Stamp Camp $12.00 charge.  Remember to let me know no later than Wednesday, May 20th if you will be attending – not the June 20 date reported in my previous blog.  I need sufficient time to order the paper stacks and have them back for stamp camp.

Let’s Celebrate the Men in our Lives

June is the month for Father’s Day.  Many of us no longer have Fathers, myself included.  But we all have a male Grandfather, Uncle, husband, son, nephew, neighbor, or boss.  So our June Stamp Camp celebrates the men in our lives.

SAMSUNG CSCOur “To A Classic” card features a classic Model A stamped on Sahara Sand in Night of Navy and is part of the “Guy Greetings” stamp set.  This 22 piece set is available in the wood, clear, or photopolymer (my favorite) and is being carried over into the new catalogue.  Lost Lagoon and Sahara Sand are the other colors used in the card.  A wide lagoon banner and 1 1/4” striped grosgrain ribbon frame the stamped image. The Squares Collection Framelits assist in our shapes.  Note the neutral plaid DSP background.  This is one of the two-sided 48 sheets found in the Adventure Abound DSP paper stack that is included in the standard June Stamp Camp price of $12.00.  There are 4 of each 12 patterns. This is really a good deal but you need to notify me no later than Wednesday June 20th that you are coming as that will allow me sufficient time to order the paper stacks.  Here are some of the other DSP patterns shown in the Adventure Abound DSP stack:

2015.05.18 DSP2What a wonderful assortment.  You will use the DSP from your stamp pack for your cards and can change the paper to whatever you wish as long as it coordinates with the pre-cut card stock.

Make sure you let me know if you plan on coming to June Stamp Camp – June 4th and 5th from 2 PM to 9 PM, and on June 6th from 9 AM to 4 PM.  If you would prefer a kit for the $12.00 price, just let me know ahead of time.  But YOU MUST NOTIFY ME BY WEDNESDAY JUNE 20 TO INSURE YOU WILL HAVE AN ADVENTURE ABOUND PAPER STACK!

Check back shortly for the next post as all the June Stamp Camp blogs will be posted today.  And don’t forget to check out the retiring stamp set and accessory lists at Retiring Products.

From the Garden

Finally! For our final May Stamp Camp card, we will be using the Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper that many of you chose as a free Sale-A-Bration item.  I’ve entitled this card “From the Garden”.

SAMSUNG CSCFrom the Garden features stamps from the “Mother’s Love” stamp set.  After much debate, Deb and I decided to use a color scheme of Crumb Cake, Pear Pizazz, Crisp Cantaloupe, Calypso Coral and Tangerine Tango.  The 5 X 3 3/4 Irresistibly Yours DSP is sponged in Crisp Cantaloupe as you can see from the different shades.  I find it easiest to ink my sponge and start twirling my sponge around in circles just off the DSP and then gradually move across the DSP surface.  Needless to say, the harder you press, the darker the shade.  You actually could use all 3 orange colors, on your background, but I found I preferred just the Cantaloupe.  I used the Tag Topper to punch out the 2” wide tag and stamped my 2-step flowers in Tangerine Tango and Calypso Coral.  The 2-step leaves are stamped in Pear Pizazz but I think I will use Garden Green and Pear Pizazz on my next sample.  The message is stamped in Pear Pizazz and layered on scallop-punched DSP that I sponged in Calypso Coral and adhered with dimensionals. Sahara Sand 7/8” lace trim and Washi Tape finish off the card.

There you have it – 4 Buds and Blooms cards for our May Stamp Camp.  All or none of the cards can be used for Mother’s Day or any occasion.  The cost for this stamp camp is the normal $12 and includes everything you will need.  If you prefer, I can prepare a kit for the same price and you can do your cards at home.  Just let me know what works for you.

As a reminder – we don’t meet in July.  However, please keep June Stamp Camp marked on your calendar as we will be doing manly cards.  Everyone who notifies me by May 20th that they will be attending the June Stamp Camp (June 4,5,6) or wish to purchase the kit, will receive the Adventure Bound DSP Stack with 48 2-sided sheets of 6 1/2 X 4 1/2 masculine DSP.  You can find this stack on page 40 of your current Occasions Catalog good thru June 2, 2015 – or you can view it here Adventure Bound DSP Stack.  I will be in California visiting my almost 97-year young Mother and will need to place my order prior to leaving.  So keep the May 20th date in the back of your mind!  This paper stack will give you masculine cards for this year and possibly next.

Keep on truckin’ craftin’, Rosemary – 630/759-3089 – paperrose01@aol.com

Spring Starburst

We did starburst cards in fall 2013 but haven’t done one since.  This is such a great way to use your bits and pieces of DSP – all you need is 4 pieces that measure 4” X 1 1/2”.  Of course, it is helpful if the colors coordinate, but this is not always necessary.

SAMSUNG CSCI used bits and pieces of DSP from my All Abloom DSP Stack..  Speaking of this paper stack, it is currently on the retired list selling for $3.48 while quantities last (see Retiring All Abloom).  The 4 X 1 1/2” DSP rectangles are cut diagonally and adhered to a piece of cs measuring 5 X 2 3/4” – to speed up the process, I used a glue stick .  The most important placement trick is to mark the vertical center of your 5 X 2 3/4 cs so that the center 2 pieces are perfectly centered.  The remaining diagonals simply abut to the previous piece.  After the glue is dry, we take GOOD scissors and trim around the card stock leaving this beautifully designed card layer.  I added a bit of Daffodil Delight 1/4” ribbon, a doily, a few rhinestones, and my message.  Although this card says “happy mother’s day,” there are many Teeny Tiny Wishes stamps to choose from.  I layered my finished starburst on Pistachio Pudding, Daffodil Delight and Lost Lagoon.  The starburst technique is a great tool for quick cards that use up your DSP scraps!

This is the 3rd of 4 cards for our May Stamp Camp.  I hope you can come.  I can arrange for an alternate time if it is more convenient – Thursday or Friday morning or an evening next week.  Just let me know what works best for you.  Scheduled dates and times are:  Thursday May 7 and Friday May 8 from 2 – 9 PM, and Saturday May 9 from 9 AM – 4 PM.  It’s helpful if you can let me know which day you might be attending, but this is not required.

Check back shortly for the final May Stamp Camp card where we use the Irresistibly Yours DSP.

Sheltering Tree

SAMSUNG CSCSheltering Tree is a lovely set to work with.  This photopolymer stamp set is one that can be used year round – spring blossoms, summer leaves, fall changing colors, and winter snowflakes.  Other stamps included with the set are a bike, tree swing, rake, the little flowers and stems shown here, snowflakes and a small grouping of 6 leaves that might accumulate on the grass beneath the tree.  I think the message “Friendship is a sheltering tree” is perfect for friends and family.  “Thinking of you”, “Thankful for you”, and “You warm my heart” messages are also part of the set.  The card is done in Strawberry Slush and Coastal Cabana.  The first layer of color on the tree is Color Box Chalk Inkpad in Rose Coral.  Deb designed this card and I absolutely love it.

Don’t forget to let me know if you think you might be stopping by for May Stamp Camp.  This is not mandatory, but is just helpful to plan seating, etc.  Mark your calendars now for our manly June Stamp Camp – Celebrating Men!  Every one who pre-registers will receive the Adventure Bound DSP Stack.  This paper stack is 48 sheets 6 1/2 X 4 1/2 of masculine double sided paper.  Such a deal – 4 manly cards + the paper stack for $12.00.  Details will follow.

Two more blogs to follow on Tuesday, Cinco de Mayo!  We will see another card using scraps and a card using the Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper.  You will actually color your DSP by sponging ink on your paper.  This is a really cool technique!

I’m off to eat my dinner and head to bed.  Blessings, Rosemary – 630/759-3089 – paperrose01@aol.com

Painted Petals

This is a GREAT way to use the Designer Series Paper odds and ends you may have sitting around.  It’s so easy to buy a piece of DSP because you love the color/pattern/texture.  However, I find I always have a few bits and pieces that I hate to throw away.

SAMSUNG CSCThis card uses the Painted Petals stamp set and absolutely lovely Painted Blooms DSP.  The measurements for the DSP are 3 3/4” X 1 3/4”.  The scallop border punch is used on both the DSP and the layer of Pacific Point CS.  Garden Green and Pacific Point inks are used and the messages come from the Mother’s Love and From the Garden stamp sets.  There is a lovely Mother’s Day saying in the Mother’s Love set.  Soft Sky CS was used for the actual card and the ribbon trims used were Garden Green ribbon and Soft Sky twine.  The trick to this card is to not move the photopolymer stamps from how they are placed on the block which matches how the stamps on the backing.  The leaves are done with 1 stamping, and the flowers are done with 1 stamping.  The card is pretty fast – once the paper is layered, you stamp the leaves once, the flowers once, the message and you are DONE!  Although the stamped flowers are similar to the DSP, you can see how any DSP would work and carry the colors thru with your stamping.

As many of you know, Stamping Up comes out with a new catalog every year.  The date for the new catalog has changed every year for some time.  SU has markets in Austria, Germany, France, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, and of course, the United States.  This year, SU is placing their markets all under one platform.  Thus, the new books will come out at the same time for all markets.  June 2, 2015 is the last day to order any items from the current catalog.  June 3, 2015 is the start of the new 2015-2016 catalog transition.  I will be ordering catalogs on May 5th (WOW – that’s tomorrow) so you can pick up yours as soon as they arrive.  There will be some changes with the new catalog that I will discuss later.  Please make sure you check out the retiring stamps and accessories list and let me know if there is anything you want to order.  There are some nice savings on many of the retiring items.  Retiring products

I hope you can make it to the May Stamp Camp.  I know I have heard from several you.  This is a busy time of year and several of you find ordering a May Stamp
Camp kit is the way to go.  Just let me know if you prefer to go this route.  The cost is $12 – the same as for Stamp Camp.  However, with a kit, you can’t enjoy my craziness!  I will be back with another blog shortly.  The next blog will feature a tree with beautiful pink leaves – reminiscent of cherry blossoms.
