BEAUTIFUL DAY meets POP ART and BRUSHO

I will admit that I was out of my comfort zone with this project.  So I told myself – YOU CAN DO THIS – and I DID!  Actually, it is fun to play with Brusho as there are no rules – just enjoy the color!

WP_20180321_16_20_01_Pro 1This was my first cards – done in red and yellow Brusho on watercolor paper.  The butterfly had been wet embossed in white and because of emboss-resist, the Brusho did not adhere to the embossed butterfly.  I experimented with several colors of embossing powder, but the white gives the best results.  I did add the gold metallic “celebrate you” but I think that may have been overkill.

WP_20180321_15_56_57_Pro 1This second sample has a bit of orange added. Note how I have toned my color down some from the original card. The embellishments are limited to retired candy dots in yellow and red.

Butterflies and roses from the Beautiful Day stamp set have been white embossed on watercolor paper and also on shimmery white so you can choose which you want.  The watercolor paper gives you a rough finish while the shimmery white is smoother and – well, shimmery!

WP_20180321_15_59_09_Pro 1This sample was watercolored with aqua painters and diluted Brusho from a paint palette.  The color was simply brushed on lightly.  A paper towel could be used to wipe off any excess and speed up the drying process.  As I noted before, there are no rules with Brusho.  You can have pop art as noted above or a peaceful watercolor as seen here.  The choice is yours.  I have quite a few samples including one in blue and yellow.  I tend to gravitate toward the red and yellow.

WATERFRONT

I will admit I was a bit nervous about starting this watercolor-inspired card.  The waterfront scene looks so pure and pristine and I wasn’t sure I could produce the same effect.  Once I started, I discovered that the stamping was quite easy and the finished card was quite beautiful.

WP_20180316_15_53_58_Pro 1Our waterfront scene pictures a sunny day, blue sky with birds,  mountains, a grassy field with trees, a lake and a sandy beach.  One or two little huts are perched in the foreground.  This sounds so peaceful.  However, I will admit my peaceful hands were pretty well inked-up by the time the stamping was finished.  Ten inks were used to complete this  scene – Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Old Olive, Wild Wasabi, Garden Green, Bermuda Bay, Pool Party, Crushed Curry, Early Espresso and Tuxedo Black Memento.  The sky was lightly sponged with a sponge dauber in Pool Party. Several of the Waterfront stamps are vague in shape and can be used for the water, grass, and sandy beach.  There is a mountain shape which was stamped once in Crumb Cake and again to the right in Soft Suede.  The Garden Green trees can be stamped multiple times to give a forest effect or just once to show 3 simple trees.  There is a stamp that gives a lake effect. The hut and sun are well defined shapes.   The birds come from the High Tide stamp set that we used in 2017. The art piece was framed in Early Espresso and layered onto Bermuda Bay embossed with the Seaside Textured Embossing Folder. The finished Pool Party card is quite striking.  No embellishments are needed.

So far we have seen 3 of our projects for April Stamp Camp – a charming flower cart, birds on a branch, and now a waterfront scene.  Stay tuned for our last card – one that was TOTALLY out of my comfort zone.

Don’t forget to let me know if you will be coming to Stamp Camp on April 5, 6, or 7.

BIRD BANTER

WP_20180314_14_58_51_Pro 1‘YOU’RE THE KIND OF FRIEND I’D SHARE MY BRANCH WITH.”  How cute is this sentiment?  Two birds colored with Stampin’ Blends, perched on a branch having a conversation.  The background for the birds has a Mint Macaroon water-color wash.  I used  different washes on the sample cards as some might prefer more white.  The Petal Passion designer paper is black and white but it colors beautifully with the Stampin’ Blends.  The added flowers from the Bird Banter stamp set carry the colors through..

WP_20180314_15_00_14_Pro 1The second sample features the sentiment “A LITTLE BIRDIE TOLD ME IT WAS YOUR BIRTHDAY”.  A birthday hat and balloon help the parakeet celebrate.  And guess what – all the birds, branches, flowers, balloons and hats have been stamped and cut out for you on my Stamp ‘n Cut!  All you have to do is color and adhere!  Although you can’t tell from these images, Wink of Stella adds a lot of glimmer!  Bird Banter is found on page 42 of the Occasions Catalog that retires May 31st, 2018.  This is not one of the sets that is being carried over to the new 2018-2019 catalog.  So if this is a set you would like to add to your stampin’ library, now is a great time to order it.

Check back soon for the next blog post – Waterfront.  And remember – April Stamp Camp is on April 5, 6, and 7.  It is helpful if you would let me know which day you might be attending.

FRIENDSHIP’S SWEETEST THOUGHTS

Hi Crafters!

Happy Spring!  The days are slowly becoming warmer and the extra hour of daylight are certainly wonderful.  This month we are celebrating friends as we create our card projects.  I absolutely love our first card:

WP_20180308_13_01_02_Pro 1Friendship’s Sweetest Thoughts is indeed sweet!  I love the flower cart brimming with blossoms.  In this image, the Petal Pair Textured Impressions Embossing Folder has actually been debossed on the crumb cake layer versus being embossed.  Debossing gives a different texture to the card stock.  The flower cart is colored with Stampin’ Blends and layered on a colored scalloped circle.

WP_20180308_14_07_28_Pro 1The art piece is then layered onto a crisp white doily which is popped up on the card front.  A bit of ribbon adds both texture and fun to the card.  One of the messages with this limited time stamp set reads “Beauty blooms where you are”.  I think this is a great sentiment for those friends who are near and dear to us.

WP_20180308_15_01_40_Pro 1I love how the bright springy colors make this card “pop.”  There are so many combinations we could go with.  Note how this card and the one above have been embossed with the Petal Pair Textured Impressions Embossing Folder versus the debossed version in the first card. Also,  Wink of Stella adds glimmer to all 3 samples

WP_20180308_12_56_52_Pro 1I think this message stamp from “Friendship’s Sweetest Thought’s” is perfect for those friends we hold dear to us.  “Friendship’s Sweetest Thoughts blossom In The heart.”  How absolutely perfect.  Note the addition of the flower bench and the small flower in the corner.  These stamps add so much to the message layer.

So, in case you’ve forgotten, April Stamp Camp will be held on Thursday, April 5th from 1 – 7 PM, on Friday, April 6th from 2 – 7 PM, and Saturday April 7th from 9 AM to 4 PM.  Note the starting time on Thursdays is one hour earlier than listed on the calendar.  This was due to a request from several crafters to start earlier on Thursdays.  The cost remains $12 for our 4 cards.  If you choose to do extra cards, the cost is $2 for each.

Looking forward to seeing you!  Rosemary – (home)630/759-3089 – (cell)630/965-1965 – paperrose01@aol.com
