A CLASSIC CAR

It’s been quite awhile since we’ve done an easel card.  Debbie designed these cards using the “Geared Up Garage” stamp set and coordinating dies.  She chose a color scheme of Graphite Gray, Pacific Point, and silver and black foils.  This card is all about gears – definitely a guy thing although I am sure there are many gals out there that know more about cars and gears than some guys do.  Note the “tire” Debbie used to “prop up” the easel. 

I thought I had ordered the Classic Garage Metal Elements that coordinate with this bundle – but we couldn’t find them (they were hidden in a drawer).  Debbie was going to use a tiny metal key as the easel prop.  No key could be found so she took a small silver metal button, but apart a black foil gear, and came up with a clever wheel!  Hats off to Debbie!

On our second sample, we can see the metal key acting as the easel prop.  Of course nowadays, many cars don’t use keys but for a classic car, a key is the way to go.  The cars have been colored with Stampin’ Blends – orange above and red to the right.  Wink of Stella adds a glittery sheen to the colors.  You can color your car your favorite color – yellow?  green?  brown or black?  And you can choose or make your own prop for your easel card 

If easel cards are new to you, perhaps this side view will help.  Your measurements are the same as for any horizontal A2 card – 8 1/2 X 5 1/2 scored at 4 1/4”.  However, you add an extra score at 3” and that is where your card starts to rise.  The top layer is 5 1/4 X 4 but is only adhered to the card front to the 3” score line.  The small metal key or the tire Debbie constructed act as the prop to hold the easel in place.  This card would be perfect for a birthday, Father’s Day, or just to show someone you appreciate them.

Now that you’ve seen the 4 cards for June Stamp Camp, please let me know which day you are coming and how many of each card you wish to do.  The cost remains $14 for any 4 cards and $3 for each additional card.  The cost includes all supplies and materials.  There will be a snack on the kitchen counter so no one starves, and water and soda pop are in the fridge.

June 4th – The new 2019-2020 SU catalog takes effect.  At this time, I don’t know if retiring items will go on the clearance rack at a discounted rate, or not.  I have the new catalogs.

June 6, 7, 8th – June Stamp Camp.  June 6th from 12 Noon – 6 PM.  June 7th from 2 – 6 PM.  June 8th from 9 PM – 4 PM.

July 18 & 20 – Christmas in July.  Thursday July 18 from 12 N – 7 PM and Saturday July 20 from 9 AM – 4 PM.  The 4 cards will be out at June Stamp Camp and will be posted to the blog in June.  I will need a firm count on how many you will want to do of each card.  Prices will be available shortly.

August 1, 2, 3rd – August Stamp Camp.  We will be doing late summer cards – a bicycle card, a hanging flower basket card, and a flip/flop card.  Our 4th card may be a Christmas Card.  We will definitely be including Christmas cards at our September – October and November Stamp Camps.

Shaken Rooster

Although the sequins are hiding, this is a shaker card with sparkly earth toned sequins tucked inside the frame.  The “Home to Roost” stamp set was one of the Sale-A-Brations sets and this is the first time I’ve had a chance to use it.  The Early Espresso card base is layered with Wood Textures DSP that has been die cut with a stitched rectangle die.  In this sample, wheat has been stamped in Crumb Cake across the bottom front DSP layer.  The base for this shaker box is Whisper White and Crumb Cake wheat has been stamped.  Mr. Rooster was stamped in Early Espresso on Whisper White and Very Vanilla and cut with the Brothers ScanNCut.  When using the ScanNCut, all images must be connected so that each piece is recognized by the machine.  I took an Early Espresso marker and connected any loose ends before sending  the stamped cs to cut.

Mr. Rooster is colored with Stampin’ Blends in Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Only Orange, Night of Navy and Bronze, and adhered to the base. The top layer is an Early Espresso frame with a window sheet adhered to the back with tape.  Foam strips are adhered around the base. After removing the top strip from the foam, sequins are placed in the center of the base.  The top layer is then adhered to the foam strips and presto – we have a sequin shaker!  The shaker box is then adhered securely to the top layer of the card.  As noted on the card to the right, the shaker box can be centered or placed at an ankle as shown in the samples above and below.  The simple message is stamped in Early Espresso, die cut and framed.

The framed message an be adhered directly to the card, or as shown in the sample to the left, can be adhere to a piece of beige flax ribbon.  I almost forgot to mention the sun!  Samples 2 and 3 have a sun peeking out of the corner.  The sun was sponged in Pineapple Punch and is, of course, optional.  One nice thing about this card is the options – you choose the wood tone you prefer from the DSP.  There is distressed white wood, shades of oak, and even walnut to choose from.  Wheat can be stamped on the DSP if you choose. A sun can be sponged if you want. You decide your shaker box placement – centered or at an angle?  You will make this card truly your own. 

I’m happy to report that I finished the 4 Christmas in July samples today.  The samples which will be available at June Stamp Camp include a holiday window scene, a gingerbread couple, a beautiful bauble, and a wintry scene.  I resurrected some Christmas stamps and dies from the past as Stampin’Up does not come out with the new holiday images until August/September.  I hope you like them.

LILYPAD LAKE

With all the rain we’ve been having, some days when I look out in the back yard, it looks similar to our Lilypad Lake card

Blue water, sailboats in the distance, a sunny sky with birds flying overhead, a pelican and vegetation at water’s edge – what more can you ask for?  “Lilypad Lake” is a fun card to make.  You can have a single sailboat or perhaps a regatta taking place.  The sunny sky is sponged on shimmery white cs giving a sparkly look.  The lake is stamped in Bermuda Bay and Pool Party on shimmery white.  The beach area is stamped is Soft Suede.  I constructed a larger bush by adhering 3 green bushes together.  The bush hides the tip of the pelican’s tail.  A lilypad features 2 flowers that brighten up the lake scene.  Additional bushes pop up behind the lilypad. 

All of our cards will be a bit different.  Notice the lighter sunny sky and bird placement compared to the scene above.  Although I chose to color my boats the same in both scenes, the card to my right features a gray pelican with Lovely Lipstick and Pineapple Punch flowers.  My bush construction here resulted in a bush taller than the pelican. You can make your card however wish.  If you need assistance with the coloring or sponging, please ask.   I am more than happy to help with any part of your card construction.  The goal is to have the sailboats, pelicans, lilypads, and bushes pre-cut for you. 

As a reminder, June Stamp Camp is Thursday June 6th from 12 N – 6 pm, Friday June 7th from 2 – 6 pm, and Saturday June 8 from 9am – 4 pm.  I am happy to schedule an alternate date/time if you are unable to come during the planned hours.

The new 2019-2020 Stampin’Up catalogs are here and you can pick up yours at stamp camp or earlier if you are in the area. The deadline for ordering from the current catalog is June 3rd.  And when items run out that are not being carried over to the new catalog, those items are not being replenished.  However, many sets are being carried over to the new book plus lots of new stamp sets, dies, ribbons and embellishments will become available June 4th.  

In my spare time, I have been working on Christmas in July.  Card #1 is done and card #2 is almost done.  I’m having issues getting in the Christmas spirit with all the rain and thunder.  I know the hail is white but it certainly does not look or feel like softly fallen snow.  Mark your calendars now for this annual Christmas card-making event – Thursday July 18 from 12 noon – 7 pm and Saturday July 20 from 9 am to 4 pm.  I am unable to give a price at this time as I haven’t finished designing the cards.  The cards and a sign-up sheet will be available at June Stamp Camp.

YE OLDE TOOL BOX

He who has the most tools wins!  “Geared Up Garage” is the perfect stamp set for the “garage-aholic”.  I don’t think that is really a word, but I’m sure you get the picture.  This card features both the garage stamp set and coordinating DSP, and the cutest ever tiny metal wrench!  This bundle retires June 3 so if you like tools, now is the time to grab it!

 

 

Debbi started with a Basic Black card base and layered on embossed Graphite Gray cs and the tool covered DSP.  The card above features a framed Real Red tool box and this card has a Pumpkin Pie tool box.  A strip of DSP runs down the card center and is embellished with black foil gears and the metal wrench.  This card is perfect for anyone who loves tools – great for a birthday or Father’s Day.

June Stamp Camp is right around the corner.  Dates and times:  Thursday June 6th from 12 N – 6 pm, Friday June 7th from 2 – 6 pm, and Saturday June 8 from 9am – 4 pm.  We will be making 4 cards for $14 and if you want to make additional cards, the cost is $3 per card.  All materials and tools are provided.  You just need to bring yourself.  Let me know what day you plan on coming and what cards you wish to make, and I will have everything ready for you!
