CLIMBING ORCHIDS

WP_20180420_15_18_11_Pro 1Being an ex-florist, I am very fond or orchids.  Although orchid corsages and orchid stems in bouquets have lost their popularity, orchid plants  are very on trend.  I chose Sweet Sugarplum and Fresh Fig for my color scheme.  Gorgeous Grunge is stamped in Fresh Fig judiciously to provide a bit of interest.  The background features the Layered Leaves Dynamic TIEF.  The dynamic embossing folders use only one acrylic plate when running thru the Big Shot but leave a much heavier, dynamic impression. A 2 7/8 die cut square is adhered to a 3” scalloped Fresh Fig square and popped up with dimensionals on the card front.  This sample features the flatter Phalaenopsis or moth orchids.  The orchids are stamped, die cut and layered one set of petals over the other.  The throat of the orchid is stamped, die cut and adhered on top of the petals.

WP_20180420_15_19_33_Pro 1The second sample features more of a Cattleya orchid with the increased coloring.  The orchids are formed and adhered to the card front.  Leaves can be added if desired.  Old Olive stems are stamped between the orchids and lead up to the 2 buds.  Although I chose a Happy Birthday sentiment for my card front, any short sentiment will work.  This would make a great sympathy, anniversary, get well or thinking of you card.

There you have it!  For May Stamp Camp, we will be making the 3-page Charming Café card, We must Celebrate meets Lovely as a Tree, Petal Palette, and finally, Climbing Orchids.  It is very helpful if you can let me know which day you might be attending.  If you wish to do the Charming Café card, please let me know by April 29th which color you prefer or I will cut Powder Pink.

May Stamp Camp will be held Thursday, May 3 from 1 – 7 pm, Friday, May 4 from 2-7 pm, and Saturday, May 5 from 9 am – 4 pm.  Please note that June Stamp Camp will be held on May 31, June 1 and June 2.  We are meeting a week earlier than normal to allow for Father’s Day cards to be sent.

PETAL PALETTE

04.21.18 Petal Palette 1I love the Petal Palette stamp set and framelits.  This is one of those “gentle” stamp sets and I’m happy to report it is not retiring next month. The background of this Rich Razzleberry card uses the leaf stem embossing folder from the Petal Pair TIEF.  The Whisper White cs is run thru the Big Shot twice with this half embossing folder – first on one side, and then the other.  The sentiment is stamped and then die cut with the 2 7/8” circle die and layered onto a 3” die cut Razzleberry scallop circle.  After the background and circle are adhered to the card front, the rose cascade is stamped and colored with Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive Stampin Blends.  The main rose cluster is die cut and adhered to the left of the circle.

04.21.18 Petal Palette 3The trailer of 5 buds has been cut with the Stamp ‘n Cut.  The bud trailer is slipped under the bottom leaf of the main cluster and adhered in place.  There are 3 samples with 3 different sentiments although you can use any sentiment that fits on the circle.  There are also 3 different lower right corner suggestions.  An embellishment or stamped image is needed to balance the heavy rose cluster.  As noted above, Rich Razzleberry ribbon and bow are used.  In the sample to the left, a die cut spring of rose buds and leaves are shown.  The third sample uses a bird on a small leafy branch.  Perhaps you will have another idea to finish your Petal Palette card.

This is card #3 for May Stamp Camp.  As a reminder, May Stamp Camp is on May 3 from 1 to 7 pm, May 4 from 2 to 7 pm, and May 5 from 9 am to 4 pm.  It is helpful to know which day you might be coming. If you are planning on doing the Charming Café card, you will need to let me know by April 29th if you prefer the Lemon Lime, Berry Burst or Powder Pink.  If you do not specify a color, I will cut Powder Pink cs.

As many items are retiring from the catalog next month, please check out the retirement list at Retiring Product List.  While the catalog officially retires the end of May, as retiring items diminish, they will not be replaced.  So – if there is something you want, let me know now so we can get it before it is sold out.  Also check out the Color Revamp in my previous blog.  You may want to purchase a re-inker on retiring colors as some of these colors are classics.

Check back soon to see the final card for May Stamp Camp – Climbing Orchids.

WE MUST CELEBRATE meets LOVELY AS A TREE

04.21.18 We must.friendsAs we haven’t done a “Z” card in awhile, I thought is was time for this simple fold technique.  The 8 1/2 X 11 Daffodil Delight cs is cut lengthwise at 4 1/4” and scored at 5 1/2” and 2 3/4”.  The score at 4 1/4” is folded forward and the score at 2 3/4 is folded back forming the “Z” fold. Retired Floral Boutique DSP is adhered to the front and  back of the smaller “Z”  folds.

For this Night of Navy and Daffodil Delight color scheme, a white rectangle is layered onto a Daffodil Delight stitched rectangle.  The multiple tree stamp from “Lovely as a Tree” is stamped twice on the white layer. 2-3 mushrooms are colored and adhered to the background.

04.21.18 We must.birthdayThe rabbit, raccoon and bear are colored with Stampin’ Blends and adhered to the white rectangle layer with Stampin Dimensionals. The animal festooned layer is then adhered securely to a portion of the front “Z”.  The top sample has the sentiment “friends fur-ever” stamped on the message layer.  The second sample uses a happy birthday sentiment

04.21.18 We must.birthday msgWhen the “Z” is pulled back, we see the message layer as well as a small continuation of the card front.  Wink of Stella adds some glimmer to the trees and animals.  Wink of Stella must be applied carefully to inked surfaces such as the stamped trees we see here as it will pick up the ink and smear the color.  This is not an issue, however, with Stampin” Blends.

I did something “daring” with my “We Must Celebrate” stamp set – I cut the 4 animals apart.  I really wanted to use them singly so I grabbed my snips and just did it.  As there are no dies for this set, I stamped about 20 of each on Whisper White cs and my Brother Scan n’ Cut proceeded to cut them out.  For you, this means your animals and mushrooms are cut and ready to be used.  Much easier than fussy cutting!

Did you know “Lovely as a Tree” is the oldest Stampin’Up set.  We hold our breath every year wondering if it will retire.  I broke down and bought a new “Lovely as a Tree” set this year.  My old set was wood and I really wanted something easier to use.

Finally, Here is everything you wanted to know about the Color Revamp that is taking place.

COLOR-REVAMP_DEMO_HEADER_USCA

THE COLORS ARE EVOLVING!

The spice of life is variety, and that’s especially true in the world of color. Stampin’ Up! makes a point to keep an eye on color trends across different markets and industries. When we see changes happening, we review our color spectrum to ensure that we remain consistently on top of the trends. This brings us to the 2018 Color Revamp!

In order to keep bringing you the most current and on trend colors, we decided it was time to give our color collections a makeover.

With this revamp, you’ll have a new variety of shades that will inspire creativity and allow you to explore more sides of your crafting. Read on for more information!

THE DETAILS

There are still four color collections, each with ten colors. There is also a new color group called Basics.

In order to keep our color collections to exclusive Stampin’ Up! colors, we moved Basic Black, Very Vanilla, and Whisper White out of the Neutrals collection. We’ve also moved a few colors into the Neutrals collection, making it more exciting and colorful!

Some additional colors have changed collections as well—you’ll notice this as you look through the new collections below. You can refer to the old and new color charts in the 2018-2019 catalog. These changes were based on needing to maintain color balance in our updated collections. For example, Poppy Parade is now the brightest red so it is part of the Brights collection.

IN COLORS

There are no changes to the In Color program. Every two years we will continue to introduce five new In Colors that will be available for the ensuing two years.

We also have previous In Colors that are returning and joining our core colors:

  • Mossy Meadow
  • Poppy Parade
  • Flirty Flamingo
  • Coastal Cabana
  • Mint Macaron
  • Blackberry Bliss

NEW CLASSIC STAMPIN’ PADS

In addition to new colors, we also redesigned our ink pads. The case is a new, more intuitive design and we’ve improved the formula of the ink, as well! We think you will love these changes and you can learn more here.

HOW THESE CHANGES WORK FOR YOU

Remaining on trend and up-to-date with new products is one of the most important parts of a business and this color revamp does just that. In addition to the business aspect, this is exciting for stampers on a personal level! For people who love to create, a bigger variety of products and fresh, vibrant colors allow you to stretch your creativity and engage your senses in pushing your crafting limits.

RETIRING COLORS PRODUCT RESOURCE

Whenever colors are retired, there is always some confusion about the status of various products in those colors. We wanted to be sure that our customers have a chance to buy retiring ink pads and refills before they are gone. We have worked with our vendors to ensure that we have a period of guaranteed stock before the retirement date. This means that even if an ink pad/refill goes on backorder during that guaranteed time, those orders will be fulfilled.

However, after that guarantee date has passed, those products in retiring colors are available while supplies last. Please see the chart below that details this. It also shows how other products with retiring colors will be handled.

CHARMING CAFE

This fun-fold card was CAS’d from Cindy Brumbaugh.  Cindy has a video for Charming Café on youtube and I followed it step by step by step.

04.21.18 Charming Cafe Lemon LimeThis see-through card is so cute.  The cascade of flowers and the café scene are colored with Stampin’ Blends and Stampin’ Write Markers.  The dies that are part of this bundle make cutting the individual pieces a cinch. Watercolor Wash in Soft Sky is stamped on the 3rd layer (background) and leaves room for a generous message.

04.21.18 Charming Cafe added message There is room for a second, smaller sentiment below the café table.  I chose “LIFE IS BETTER WITH YOU IN IT” which is a stamp that comes with the Charming Café stamp set.

The Fresh Florals Designer Paper (DSP) comes in 4 colors – Lemon Lime as used in the card above, Berry Burst, Powder Pink and Tranquil Tide.  There are also 4 patterns available; I show 3 of the patterns in this post.  You can use the pattern of  your choice.

04.21.18 Charming Cafe Powder PinkThe flower cascades and café scenes are colored to coordinate with the basic color.  Ivory was used for the café floor as my Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blend is MIA.  The café chair pads are colored in the matching pink, Lemon-Lime, or Berry Burst.  The coffee cups and vase are also colored.

04.21.18 Charming Cafe Berry BurstFinally, we see the Berry Burst card.  If you plan on making this card at May Stamp Camp, you MUST let me know what color you prefer – Lemon Lime, Powder Pink, or Berry Burst.  You can choose your Fresh Floral pattern as you make your card.

I will be pre-cutting the actual card for you.  Why?  Because a 1/4 panel of the 8 1/2 X 11 card stock needs to cut out.  Actually, an additional 1/16” needs to be removed and that is the tricky part.  I do not have this technique perfected yet, so I am volunteering to do the tricky part for you.  However, the remaining cuts will be left for you,

Charming Café stamp set and framelits will be retiring the end of May or sooner if supplies run out.  To see all the retiring Stampin’Up items, check out this link Retiring Products.

Stampin’ Up is doing a major color revamp, something they do about every 5 years.  Some of the basic colors I love will be retiring with other colors coming on the horizon.  If you have some of the retiring colors, treasure them.  If your ink pads become dry, chances are I have the refills and can re-ink your pads for you.

On May 31, 2018, thirteen colors are retiring.

  • Always Artichoke
  • Chocolate Chip
  • Elegant Eggplant
  • Island Indigo
  • Marina Mist
  • Perfect Plum
  • Pink Pirouette
  • Rose Red
  • Soft Sky
  • Tangerine Tango
  • Tempting Turquoise
  • Wild Wasabi
  • Wisteria Wonder

The retiring 2016-2018 In Colors are:

    • Dapper Denim
    • Emerald Envy
    • Flirty Flamingo*
    • Peekaboo Peach
    • Sweet Sugar Plum

Finally – May Stamp Camp will be Thursday, May 3 from 1 – 7 pm, Friday, May 4 from 2 – 7 pm, and Saturday May 5 from 9 am to 4 pm.  If you can, please let me know which day you will be attending.  If choosing to make Charming Café, let me know which color you prefer.
