TEALIGHT CHRISTMAS

Well, Crafters, it’s hard to believe our stamping year is almost over.  We’ve created hearts, lots of flowers, pumpkins, snowmen, cars, snow globes, and now it’s time for angels.  This is the first time in my 15 years with Stampin’Up that I have offered a tealight card but it seems so perfect with our angels.  I decided to make the cards tone on tone versus trying for contrast.  All of the Designer Series Paper is from the Brightly Gleaming Specialty collection.  Our first sample is in Cherry Cobbler and Copper.

The  sample to the left is in Night of Navy and Copper.  We are running a bit short on copper as Stampin’Up has it currently on back order with a warehouse delivery date of December 2.  I’ve reduced the copper decorative side pieces to 3/4” X 5 1/4”.  A 1” strip would be a bit easier to die cut but the 3/4” will work.  The first step in making this lovely card is to adhere the DSP to the card front with a REMOVABLE adhesive.  That allows us to die cut the center opening with matching layers.  The angels will be pre-stamped as it takes time for them to dry as it does anything stamped on vellum.  The stamped vellum is “sandwiched” between the DSP and the top card layer. 

The die cut lantern is adhered over the angel “sandwich”.  I used liquid adhesive on the back of my lantern and found that by squeezing out a small amount of glue on my silicone craft sheet, by using a toothpick, I can easily put small dots around the back of the lantern and it sticks beautifully.  However, accidents do happen.  If you look closely at my samples, you might notice little additions that were used to cover up my adhesive mishaps. 

The Pretty Peacock sample to the left is quite attractive.  Peacock is one of the trending colors this year.  The angels stamped on the vellum come from 2 very old stamp sets that I refuse to part with.

I refer to the angel used in the samples above as the “classic angel” and the angel in the Old Olive sample to the right, as the “Littlest Angel.”  The classic angels are stamped in the wonderful Celestial Copper Ink.  I’m hoping Stampin’Up carries the Delicata Metallic Inks over into the next season as the copper, gold and silver are all wonderful.  The littlest angel is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with Stampin’ Blends.  I’m embarrassed to say that I colored on the front of the vellum instead of the back but she still turned out cute. 

The final sample from the Brightly Gleaming Designer Paper is my least favorite.  First, the paper is too busy for this card and second, instead of using the sentiment from Toile Christmas that was used for the angel samples, I used the Merry Christmas ribbon and it is not my favorite.  However, this sample shows the candle which is actually die cut from gold glimmer and “sandwiched” between 2 layers of vellum.  The candle can be substituted for the angel on any of the cards. 

You can do multiple cards but I will only be supplying 1 tealight.  All of the big box store should have them available.  The ones we will be using for stamp camp are from Hobby Lobby.  In case you are wondering when December Stamp Camp will be, the dates/times are:  Thursday December 5th from 11 am – 6 pm, Friday December 6th from 12 noon – 6 pm, and Saturday December 7th from 9 am – 4 pm.  We will also be making cute calendars for 2020.  These are perfect for stocking stuffers, are sized at 5 1/2 X 4 1/4 and fit perfectly in our standard A2 envelopes. 

Please let me know if you plan on coming to December Stamp Camp,  I want to make sure I have enough classic angels and littlest angels stamped, but don’t want to waste vellum.  The angels need to be pre-stamped to allow them time to dry.  The price remains $14 for 1 card and a pack of calendars.  If you choose to do no calendars and want to make 4 cards, that is fine.  If you want to do multiple cards and calendars, I will need to come up with a reasonable price.  Stay tuned for the blog post on our calendars. 

For the first time ever, I am offering a stamping class in January but we will be doing Iris Folding.  The class will be held on January 17th and January 19th with a limit of 5 crafters for each class. We will make 2 cards.  I will have iris folding samples out at December Stamp Camp.  At this exact moment, I’m not sure what the cards will be but I will announce the card theme shortly.

CALENDAR EASEL CARD

I enjoy making calendar easel cards at the end of the year.  These make great stocking stuffers and are easily mailed in a standard A2 envelope.  I like to add a message layer on the back of the easel card.  My favorite messages are from the Colorful Seasons Stamp Set.  My favs are:  YOU MAKE ME SMILE or JUST BREATHE or finally LIFE IS A BEAUTIFUL THING.

Although these may look difficult, they are really quite easy.  For me, the most challenging aspect is attaching the easel portion to the actual card, and trying to keep my card stock straight.  If someone is going to be looking at this calendar for a whole year, I want it to look nice, be sturdy, and not fall apart! 

After making my first 4 2020 calendars, I asked my hubby which he liked the best.  He chose one that had the large 2020.  I decided that since it was easier to simply die cut 2020, I would do that instead of adding embellishments.  You can choose to make your calendar however you wish.  I have tons of designer paper pulled, or you can choose to color the paper yourself as I have done on the left calendar above.

The best way to start is to first choose your designer paper and then choose card stock that will coordinate nicely.  Debbie and I will be available with paper cutters to cut and score your card stock to size.  You will receive a package of ten 2020 calendars from Taylored Expressions.  You can choose to do 1 or all 10.  You can take them home with the instructions and make them at your leisure – the choice is yours!

I think the silver and gray calendar to my right is probably the easiest.  Although the silver card would be appropriate for anyone, I think both of these are great for men.  I used Wink of Stella on my numbers, but I do have an assortment of glimmer paper that could be used also.

It is extremely helpful to know if you are coming and what you are choosing to make.  The angels for the Tealight Christmas cards need to be stamped prior to Stamp Camp so that they can dry.  You can choose to make 1 Tealight Christmas and the calendars for $14.  If you choose to make 4 Tealight Christmas card and no calendars, the cost would be $14.  If you wish to make 4 Tealight Christmas cards and calendars, the cost would be $22.  The dates and times are:Thursday December 5th from 11 am – 6 pm, Friday December 6th from 12 noon – 6 pm, and Saturday December 7th from 9 am – 4 pm.

In January, I am offering an Iris Folding class on January 16th and 18th.  This is limited to 5 crafters per class (or maybe 6). The cost will be $9 and we will be making a birthday card and a Valentine’s Day card.  This crafting technique requires 2 eyes, 2 hands, and the ability to read and work with scotch tape.  In February, regular Stamp Camps start on February 6, 7 and 8.  I will have 2020 Stamp Camp calendars available at December Stamp Camp.

SO MANY STARS

This is one of my favorite cards for this holiday season.  When we think about the true meaning of Christmas, this card says so much.  So Many Stars stamp set with the Stitched Stars Dies fills the night sky with many beautiful copper stars.  Thick Very Vanilla cs is layered with Night of Navy, Copper, and Brightly Gleaming Specialty DSP.  The Banner Triple Punch gives our sentiment a crisp finish.  Although you can’t see it, the center of the copper layer is cut out and layered on a Sizzix adhesive sheet so that die cuts come out with the adhesive layer.  I know I had promised several folks that I would pre-cut the stars, but I’m finding some of the adhesive protective layer pulls off when the stars are removed from the dies so I may not be able to keep this promise.  Several stars are popped up on Dimensionals for a 3-D appearance.  Finally, adhesive backed copper star elements festoon the starry sky.  This is a very meaningful handmade gift from the heart!

Well crafters, you have seen the 4 offerings for November Stamp Camp.  If you haven’t already, please let me know which cards you wish to do and what day you might attend.  Thursday, 11/7 from 11 am – 6 pm, Friday 11/8 from 2 – 6 pm, and Saturday 11/9 from 9 am -  4 pm.  All supplies and tools are provided, as well as drinks and a snack.  The cost remains $14 for any 4 cards and $3 for each additional card.  For December, we will have only 1 Christmas card that will feature a tea light reflecting thru a window.  We will also be doing calendars.  For those of you who are new, you will be given 10 calendars.  You can make as many as you wish during Stamp Camp and finish the rest at home.  We can do either easel calendars or refrigerator calendars with a magnetic backing.  My personal calendars are shown below.  The calendar to the left is done on an easel; the calendar to the right has magnetic strips on the back and lives happily on my refrigerator.  These make great gifts and fit perfectly in the A2 envelopes we use.

JINGLE BELLS

A Jingle Bells card is absolutely perfect for Christmas.  This Shaded Spruce card features the lovely Wrapped in Plaid DSP both as a card layer and as 2 of the punched Christmas trees.  Wrapped in Plaid comes in so many variations and I love each one.  The punched trees rest on a large die-cut circle of Shaded Spruce embossed with the Subtle Embossing Folder.  Gold is a prominent color in this card as we see a gold glimmer tree, gold stars on all the trees, and gold ribbon thru the card center.  2 Jingle Bells peek out from under the gold bow. The sentiment is die cut in Shaded Spruce with the Word Wishes dies.  Finally, Holiday Rhinestones glitter against the Wrapped in Plaid background.  A word of warning on mailing this card – I would recommend a padded envelope and having the card hand stamped.  The card would still be attractive without the added bells.

It’s hard to believe Christmas is so close!  My wish is that having Christmas in July and offering Christmas cards at each Stamp Camp since then helps supply you with handmade cards that come from the heart.

SEASON OF THANKS

The beautiful leaves on our Season of Thanks card are reminiscent of the autumn colors seen on so many of our trees.  The Gathered Leaves Dies give the leaves a realistic look as they emboss as well as die-cut.  These copper and gold metallic leaves are perfect for this season.  The Early Espresso card is layered with Calypso Coral and DSP from the realistic looking Pressed Petals suite.  A large Calypso Coral background leaf is stamped in Terra Cotta Tile and a pair of stamped and die-cut pumpkins center the gathering of leaves.  The sentiment is stamped in Early Espresso on a die cut circle of Naturals Ivory (an ancient SU card stock from years past).   A jolly turkey from the Day of Thanks stamp set is stamped in Early Espresso, cut with our Scan’n’Cut, and colored with Stampin’ Blends.  Finally, a small piece of copper trim and 3 metallic pearls finish this beautiful Thanksgiving card. 

We’ve seen 2 Thanksgiving cards featured at our November Stamp Camp on November 7, 8, and 9.  Now it’s time to take a look at Christmas.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

The days are flying by far too fast for me!  Snow?  Halloween?  Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  For November Stamp Camp, we are offering a Thanksgiving card that is embarrassingly simple.  Graphic 45 has some of the most amazing designer papers.  My good friend Judy Cassidy was so kind to give me this card stock and I am happy to share it with you.  This simple card is a 5 X 3 3/4 piece of this luscious paper layered on to Early Espresso and Pumpkin Pie cs.  The Early Espresso sentiment comes from the Word Wishes Dies.  The card features a double Copper Trim bow.  Although the location of the bird may vary on the designer paper, I made sure a bird was very visible for each card.  A few swishes of Wink of Stella adds glimmer to the bird, sunflowers, and any of the scenery you wish to highlight.

WITCHES BREW & FROGGIE STEW

Yuk – Witches Brew and Froggie Stew – no thank you!!!!  At least our Halloween card is cuter than the name my Hubby gave it!  This Pumpkin Pie and Basic Black card features the Cauldron Bubble retired set we saw in our previous post.  The Pumpkin Pie layer was embossed with a retired star studded embossing folder.  The stars carry over to the Toil and Trouble DSP.  The cauldron and froggies are die-cut and colored with Stampin’ Blends.  Several of the frogs, the cauldron background and the cauldron itself are popped up with Dimensionals which gives the card lots of dimension. This simple, yet colorful Halloween card is perfect for children and adults alike!

HALLOWEEN WITCHES

Witches and black cats scare away the rats – and just in time for Halloween.  Cauldron Bubble Stamp Set and the matching Cauldron Dies are now retired but were in the planning stages for Halloween 2018.  After my 100 year-old mother fell, broke her hip and subsequently passed away, plans for October Stamp Camp 2018 were packed away.  Debbie and I decided to resurrect this cute set for October Stamp Camp 2019.  This cute little witch is holding her friendly black cat.  Both die-cut images are colored with Stampin’ Blends and are popped up against a die-cut Pumpkin Pie Swirly Circle.  The Whisper White top layer has been embossed with my favorite Subtle Embossing folder. 

Debbie decided to carry her swirls and cat theme to the message layer as shown here.  The Gorgeous Grape and Pumpkin Pie add nice contrast to her Granny Apple Green Card.  This is one of those simple cards you can make in a jiffy and give to your children, co-workers or neighbor.  Remember, a hand-made card comes from the heart and shows that you care.

This Cauldron Bubble card can easily be done in different colors.  The primary colors can easily be interchanged.  Our final post for October will be another Halloween card from this set.

As a reminder – October Stamp Camp will be held on October 3rd from 12N – 6PM, October 4th from 2PM – 6PM, and October 5th from 9AM – 4PM.  Due to shortening daylight hours and the upcoming time change, effective November Stamp Camp thru March Stamp Camp, the Thursday hours will change to 11AM – 6PM.

STILL SCENES

Snow globes are a perfect choice for Christmas – whether you live in Arizona, Illinois or Alaska!  For October Stamp Camp, we are featuring a Snow Globe Card.  The products for our Still Scenes card can be found on page 43 of your Holiday Catalogue.  The Still Scenes Stamp Set includes the house and trees, the ornate globe holder, 2 sentiments, a small cluster of snowflakes and a dome stamp.  The Snow Globe Scenes Dies include much more – a small deer, 2 polar bears, 2 churches, 3 trees, and of course the dies for the globe and stand.  In the card to our left, I colored the image with Stampin’ Blends and used Shimmery Crystal Effects to adhere some Ice Stampin’ Glitter.  After the “snow” had dried, I took the Snow Globe Shaker Dome, removed the adhesive backing and CAREFULLY added additional Ice Stampin’ Glitter and Snowflake Sequins to the center of the globe.  The Still Scenes image was then adhered to the adhesive globe backing.  The globe was die cut from the front of the DSP layer, the adhesive on the front of the shaker dome was removed, and the snow globe popped right through the front of the DSP. 

On both samples, I decided to add a rim around the globe to add focus to the scene.  Using a circle die about 1/8” larger than the globe die, I die cut a circle of Navy for the sample above and gold for the sample to the right.  The globe die was laid inside the circle and die cut.  This provided the thin circle that highlights the globe.  A coordinating color was used to die cut the globe base backing and a metallic foil was used for the outer base.  For the card to the right, I added Dazzling Diamonds to the roof and trees of the scene and used some loose in the dome with the ice glitter and sequins.  I find the Dazzling Diamonds is quite fine and likes to stick to the globe. 

The background paper for these cards comes from the Feels Like Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) and the classic Wrapped in Plaid DSP.  I can only guarantee 1 each of the DSP designs shown in the samples.  Many crafters from September Stamp Camp saw the samples and have chosen to do 4 Snow Globe cards for October.  Thus the limit of 1 each of the designs shown above.  However, the other DSP patterns are lovely and you can see them in the Holiday Catalog.  I have purchased additional holiday sentiment dies so we are not limited to the sentiments shown above.
