Pinwheel Spinner Card for the Young at Heart

I just finished typing the last of the directions for the Young at Heart Stamp Camp.  I saved the spinner card for the end as I knew it might be challenging to explain the steps.  We are casing a card done by Dawn Olchefske.  Dawn prepared a video on making this card, and if you have time, you may want to spend 5 minutes viewing her video at http://dostamping.typepad.com/dostamping_with_dawn/2013/04/video-tutorial-stampinup-pinwheel-spinner-card.html

I chose a color scheme of Bermuda Bay and Strawberry Slush for this happy card.  The Word Window punch creates the center slot, and the retired Pinwheel Sizzlits die cuts the pinwheel with the help of the Big Shot.  As this is a retired die, feel free to bring some of your own DSP to cut extra pinwheels to take home.  I used the Cloudy Day embossing folder for the spinner layer to provide some texture.  Besides, clouds are perfect for the “Wishes Your Way” message stamp set.  The Stampin’ Piercing Mat is a great tool when making the pinwheel as you end up piercing the base 4 or 5 times.  As shown on her Video, Dawn uses the Piercing Tool to form the pinwheel, I find using a corsage pin is a bit easier – I will have both tools available for you to use.

Using 2 pennies – one on either side of the spinner layer – is the key to spinning.  My sweet hubby gave me pennies to use for the upcoming stamp camp.  Well, clever me – I wanted to make sure they were clean with no residue to keep the dimensionals from sticking.  So, I scrubbed the pennies, soaked them in bleach, soaked them in some other concoction and finally ran them through the dishwasher.  Of course they came out all corroded!!!  So sweet hubby said he will try to get a roll of NEW pennies for us to use!  I will have rhinestones, pearls, and the new Candy Dots out to use as embellishments for your cards.  The card above uses a rhinestone on either end of the front message.

I hope you can join me for the Young at Heart Stamp Camp.  The dates again are Thursday, August 1st from 3 – 9 PM and Saturday, August 3rd from 9 AM – 4 PM.  The cost for the 3 cards is $7.00.  As always, it helps if you let me know whether or not you will be attending – but that is not necessary.  I always have adequate paper cut.

The September Stamp Camp will be Thursday, Sept 5th from 3 – 9 PM; Friday, Sept 6th from 3 – 9 PM, and Saturday, Sept 7th from 9 AM – 4 PM.  We will fine tune days/times when I can better determine what works best for you.  The September theme will be Summer Flowers.  I am planning on Poppies, a beautiful Dahlia, a new Backyard Basics set, and a holiday card using designer paper and a new set from the holiday booklet.  Currently, I am planning on October Stamp Camp for Oct 3, 4, 5; November Stamp Camp for Nov 7, 8, 9 and December Stamp camp for Dec 5, 6, 7.  December may change as I know everyone is busy busy busy on that first Dec. Saturday.

Please give me a call or drop me an E-mail with any questions.  I’ve missed not seeing you in July!  Blessings, Rosemary – 630.759.3089 – paperrose01@aol.com
