Fractured cards are quite popular right now and I thought this would be a great opportunity to share the technique.
What exactly is a fracture? According to Wikipedia, Fracture is the appearance of a crack or complete separation of an object or material into two or more pieces under the action of stress. Well, we don’t apply stress to our card, but you can see how it is “fractured” into 5 different parts. What is the secret to a fractured card? 1/4” strips of card stock that are methodically adhered around the focal point. The strips must abut exactly to the DSP and the strip it encounters.
You can see in the second sample how the strips are run differently than the first sample. Your directions will indicate where to start and where to end as you adhere your strips around your Flight and Airy DSP. Note how the fracture accents your focal point – Flight and Airy DSP. Each square of DSP will show 3 birds – albeit in different poses. The shade of blue used for the Fractured Card is Azure Afternoon – one of the new blues Stampin’ Up came out with in 2023.
Where you place your DSP also plays into your fractured appearance. It appears that in my 3 samples, the DSP placement was very similar. Note the rhinestone embellishments for each card – clear rhinestones colored with either a blue or pink Sharpie. The sentiments are from the Calming Camellia Stamp Set and the strip ends are finished with the Banners Pick a Punch.
You’ve now seen the 3 cards featured at April Stamp Camp. We are trying for a 4th card and if it comes about, it will be the mystery card!
Please let me know if you are coming to April Stamp Camp, which day you plan on attending, and which cards you wish to make. I look forward to seeing your smiling faces!
